Choose the correct action
Sign out. Ends the current session on that device. Your account, your profile, your other devices, your wallet and your data all remain. In Gao, open Me and choose Sign Out.
Remove Gao App from a device. Erases the wallet, the session and the local data from that device only. Nothing on our servers is deleted, and your recovery phrase brings it back on any device. In the Gao App, open Me, choose Delete Gao App account, then Remove account from this device.
Delete your Gao App account. Deletes the account Gao App keeps for you and the data Gao App holds about you on our servers, as set out below. Your Gao ID is not deleted, your other Gao products keep working, and your wallet is untouched.
If you only want to stop using Gao on one device, sign out on that device, or remove Gao App from it. Do not delete your account.
How to delete your Gao App account
In the Gao App. Open Me, choose Delete Gao App account, then choose Delete Gao App account again and confirm. Gao asks your screen lock to confirm it is you and checks the request with your wallet, then deletes your Gao App account. Only after Gao confirms does the app erase its copy of your wallet and your session from that device.
If your version of the app does not show this entry, update Gao App to the latest version, or request the deletion by email instead.
By email. Write to the address below and include your Gao ID (it starts with gaoid_ and is shown on your Me page). We may require verification that you control the Gao ID — for example, a signature from the wallet it belongs to — before completing the request.
Request Gao App account deletion through privacy@gao.global
We will confirm receipt of the request. If processing requires additional time, we will tell you what to expect. We will also confirm when the deletion has been completed.
What deletion deletes
Subject to applicable legal and security exceptions, deleting your Gao App account deletes the information Gao App holds about you on our servers, including:
- Your Gao App account and your Gao App profile.
- Your posts, comments, reactions, reviews, signals, follows, the circles you joined, your saved items, check-ins, proofs, blocks, mutes and notifications.
- Your Studio conversations, your Work records held on our servers, and the location sharing you set up.
- Your active sessions and sign-in state in Gao App.
- The link between Gao App and your Gao ID. Signing in again later creates a new, empty Gao App account; the deleted data does not come back.
What stays, without your name
Some records exist for other people too. They are kept, with your identity removed:
- A business, event, circle or gift-card template you created stays available to the people who use it, no longer linked to you.
- A booking, gift card, redemption or points record kept by a business or by another person stays as a record, with your identity removed and your notes cleared.
- Messages you sent in a conversation stay readable for the other people in it, without your name or picture.
What is not deleted
- Your Gao ID, and the profile — display name, picture and bio — that lives on it.
- Your wallet, your private key and your recovery phrase.
- Your accounts and data in other Gao products that use the same Gao ID.
The same recovery phrase always returns the same wallet and the same Gao ID. Importing it into Gao App after a deletion gives you a fresh Gao App account under that Gao ID.
Messages already delivered
Messages and media already delivered to another person may remain on that person's device, in backups they control, or in copies they created.
Deleting your account does not remotely erase information from another person's device.
Information included by another user in a report, quotation, forwarded message, or other retained copy may also remain where legally and operationally necessary.
Information we may retain
We may retain limited information when reasonably necessary to:
- Comply with applicable law.
- Prevent fraud or abuse.
- Protect users and the service.
- Resolve disputes.
- Enforce agreements.
- Complete normal backup and security-log retention cycles.
We also keep the record of the deletion request itself, so that a repeated request is recognised and nothing is deleted twice. Any retained information remains subject to the Privacy Policy and will not be kept longer than reasonably necessary for the relevant purpose.
Your wallet is not deleted
Deleting your Gao App account does not delete your wallet, private key, or recovery phrase.
Your wallet exists independently of Gao. Gao does not possess your private key or recovery phrase and cannot recover or erase them.
Save your recovery phrase securely before deleting your account. Never send it to Gao support or anyone else.
Public blockchain records
Public blockchain records are outside Gao's control.
Deleting your account does not reverse, hide, alter, or erase transactions or other information already recorded on a public blockchain.
Before confirming deletion
- Save information you are entitled and able to export or retain.
- Confirm that you have secure access to your wallet and recovery phrase.
- Sign out on a device, or remove Gao App from it, if you only want to stop using Gao there.
- Understand that a completed deletion cannot be reversed: the data does not come back.
Delete my Gao App account
In the Gao App: open Me, choose Delete Gao App account, then choose Delete Gao App account again and confirm. It deletes your Gao App account and data as described above. It does not delete your Gao ID, your wallet, your private key or your recovery phrase.
